This is inaccurate. Kennedy does not have a school newspaper. They do have a broadcast journalism program though called KCTV.

Nevermind! I stand corrected. It looks like they did launch a student newspaper this school year. Glad they finally got one.

Actually my original post was right. The Kennedy High School with a student newspaper called the Word is John F. Kennedy High School in LAUSD.

Churchill has one. Run as a for-credit class. (Yearbook is done this way also.)

I have a kid who works on the paper at one of these schools. What surprised me is that he has to take the "paper" as an elective for every semester he wants to be involved. Which crowds out a lot of other stuff and means it's not really an EC but a class instead. Is that the case everywhere?

At my public high school in another state 30 years ago, we took newspaper for credit and got journalism training.

At Walter Johnson it works this way. Students have to take Journalism first and can then take The Pitch class.

Isn't it better if offered as an EC?? If kid wants to work on the paper every year, they miss out on taking other type of classes.
