Ignoring summer school,, we have that PE, Heath, Art, and Tech are effectively 4 years worth of mandatory distribution, electives. Only Health has only 1 course that everyone takes. There are multiple options form PE, art, and tech electives. |
| It varies by school because principals have too much power and/or don't oversee their staff well. For example, some schools don’t allow students in certain grades to take 2 electives in the same year. Make that make sense! |
If health and engineering are in the summer, I'd take PE and music or art to finish up those. Then there will be more choice in later years. That said, I'm not having my kid (also a current 8th grader) take both health and engineering over the summer. That just feels too much, especially engineering - where I think the benefits of working in person in groups is significant. She'll be doing that next year in school. |
Huh? With 7 periods and 4-5 core subjects, how can you not take 2+ electives? |
