Holiday parties at federal agencies

Ours is off site, potluck, on a weekend in January. We’ve never done a party during working hours.

Most years we are given two hours to attend a holiday party or leave early. Any additional time you must use leave..and of course we pay for the party ourselves. Most years I just take the two hours to leave early.

We never had such parties. Why are MAGAs such idiots?

Xmas parties?

Does anyone do Xmas parties?

Never had a multi hour party during work hours.

We have an open house that we (SES) pay for, it’s around lunchtime and employees can just stop in during their lunch break and grab lunch and desserts. We usually have multiple kinds of wraps and sandwiches, a variety of appetizers, and a ton of different desserts.

Our is set to be the same as always. Every office in the agency has a party at the same time. It’s normally catered from somewhere like cava or chipotle supplemented with Costco platters. Everyone has to buy a ticket if you want to eat. There’s also beer/wine/cocktails.

We have an all-hands with 10 minutes of announcements so that our contractors can attend because it’s work. It’s a potluck, and the managers usually contribute the big stuff - catered sandwiches, pizzas, etc.

I work in a field office and we will have a potluck (during lunch hours) and white elephant exchange. Which is exactly as it’s been in previous years.

We didn't have them before DOGE, why would we have them after?

Like the pp, our division had a one hour potluck pre DOGE and will probably have one again.

Why are you jealous of a one hour potluck and no holiday bonuses OP?

We have both an agency-wide holiday party and one for my component (a few hundred people), both scheduled for several hours during the workday, on different days. The agency-wide one is catered, the other one is potluck. Same as it always was.

Contractor for the fed, and we have holiday parties for the past two years at the DC wharf between 11am and 1pm. The cost is about $150 per head for 100 people. The contracting company pays for it.

Fed workers must hate each other. I mean when young I worked at jobs with no holiday party and not allowed during work hours and we have something Irish pub after work and get everyone and we all paid our own way

I was invited to my former agency's holiday party. It's during work hours. It's always been potluck (good food, too) and supervisors usually provide some better food and we have an alcohol license. It's admin leave (or was in the past), which is up to the discretion of the supervisor.

You were young and had nothing better to do. Most of us in our office have school-aged kids and don’t want to hang around after work hours.

I like my coworkers fine but I like seeing my family more.
