Do most people check who watches their Instagram stories?

What if your friends/ family just didn't check social media in those couple of days?

Then one day I posted one, just because I never had, because I wanted to put a cute effect on a picture since I'd also never done that before (yes, I know I sound old). And I realized an hour later that I could see everyone who had viewed it, and I felt so dumb for realizing that OF COURSE this is why everyone posts stories instead of regular posts. And it made me realize how unhinged some people in my peripheral social circle are because they post new stories every single day!

Also I don't think I have a lot of control over whose stories I view and whose I don't, because I just flip through them mindlessly one by one. So I'm sure there are some high school friends from 20 years ago who think I'm stalking them when in reality, their stories just always populate in my little line of stories at the top of my FB app that I scroll through as I'm on the toilet every morning. Only like 20 "friends" ever populate on my stories list, I'm not sure why FB chose those particular people for me, but they did. So I guess people really shouldn't read that much into who viewed it and who didn't.

I don't think this is the reason why people post stories instead of in their feed. I'm sure some do, but I use stories for minor things that I don't see the need to live permanently on my feed--like a clip from a concert I went to, a pretty tree I saw on a walk, a funny thing my dog is doing, etc. I do sometimes check who has seen my stories, but I'm not posting just to know. My profile is limited to friends only, so there won't be any big surprises on who sees my stories.

I check but not really for any reason but curiosity. Just like I watch stories of people I’m no longer close to out of curiosity. But it’s not like I really remember or keep track.

I only use TT now. IG feels outdated and I stop remembering to even open it several months back. Deleted FB a few years ago.

I am 48, BTW.

Then remove them from your sm.

I didn’t k ow you can do this. Can you go incognito like on LinkedIn? Or can they always see that you looked?

Yes I look. I find it odd that a few people that follow me never comment or like my stories. We are not friends at all. Frankly I don't really want them to see what I am up to. They have never invited me to a single party or event they have hosted - ever. I sort of want to unfollow them and vice versa.

Block and unblock. It will remove them from your list and you from theirs without anyone knowing.

You cannot go incognito but there are ways around showing up on the watch list if you really care. One way is to load Instagram and then go into airplane mode to look at stories. I am not sure if this still works, it's been years since I did it, but it used to work.

There are also website that will allow you to view stories of any public profile without being logged into Instagram. You just google "watch instagram stories anonymously." It won't work for a private profile though, obviously.

I do look at it sometimes, but I'm nowhere near invested enough to know if I'm looking at the stories of the people who are looking at mine or whatever. And I don't have enough drama in my life to be concerned with "people I no longer consider friends" looking at them.

I didn't even know these existed.

I never even look at stories. I don’t use instagram to keep up with friends. I have zero interest in their pictures.

Sometimes. If I'm posting a lot, then I don't bother.

he only time I was upset is when I posted a pic about how something devastating (and a short sentence about being upset) and I was sad that people didn't even heart it, which takes 1 second.

I usually only post stories because I don't want to clutter up my grid and it's fast.
