Probably paid for by right-wing developers cosplaying as affordable housing concerned citizens with the intention of gaslighting gullible left-wing voters who want to be virtuous.

This is not it. Many of us know the people behind Nimbee and they are progressive Dems.

The PP described them perfectly — “gullible left-wing voters who want to be virtuous.”

The YIMBYs can never explain why we keep building apartment buildings everywhere yet prices never come down. And these buildings have tons of vacancies. Maybe they should reexamine why “build, build, build” is such a failure before screaming for more of it.

There's a small but distinct possibility that people aren't sardines.

It works agains the YIMBYs, so whatever, but it’s hard to see.[/quote

I generally support the YIMBY movement for the most part, but the character of "Nimbee" is the definition of cringe, and its either horribly unfunny, or not even understood by the vast majority of people.
So it only serves for the 10-15 people way too into that scene as a lame inside joke.

It reminds me of the Maga crowd that was wearing bandages on their ears after the Trump incident. It’s like, do you not realize that you’ve become the caricature that everyone has drawn of you?

Exactly. So what’s the metric that will tell us that we’ve built enough? Can any YIMBY tell us? Can the developers feed them an answer that at least sounds plausible?

Developers are the YIMBYs or at very least are an agent for the YIMBYs.

YIMBY don't actually live in the neighborhoods, they just buy up properties and homes so they can "revitalize".

It’s all very clever really. Develop a catchy name to deride your opponents (“NIMBY”), send stupid mascots to meetings, and convince gullible people at the lower end of the income scale that one day they’ll be able to afford a home — meanwhile you line your pockets as you get approved to build the latest luxury apartment building with studios starting at $2500/month (and the gullible people even went to bat for you to help the approval sail through!). It’s really sad that so-called progressives have aided in this scam.

The NIMBEE opposes rent control and other tenant protections, and the low income people aren’t the gullible ones being taken in. It’s the gullible upper income people. If you’re actually a renter you know that something isn’t good for you if your landlord is for it.

So OP — what’s your answer to the Elrich quote about the disappearance of housing that is currently affordable? You can find many perfectly nice single family homes for $400k to $700k in areas like 20902, 20906, 20854. I’m having trouble understanding why it’s a good thing to let developers raze those properties and build townhomes and fourplexes in which each unit will individually cost more than that.

When you have no answers to the serious questions posed in this thread, you create more mascots! The YIMBYs don’t know what they actually stand for (except to be the mouthpiece for developers) and are fundamentally not serious people.

How about the open areas of Montgomery County? Why aren't homes being built in those areas instead?
