If you come from MAGA land, perhaps. But compared to other similar schools I think it is relatively moderate. It is not an activist school, kids dress pretty normally, etc. And personally, if the MAGA people are scared away, all the merrier - I am extremely supportive of diversity of opinion, but the people who show up with the very adversarial, Fox News driven mentality are not worth listening to. There are plenty of Republicans out there who actually use their brains, but the Trump worshippers who think he is perfect are not among them. Lewiston is an old New England industrial town without much going on. But I think this also bonds the kids on campus. So it is even more important that your child feels like they fit in. As far as the Maine schools go, Bowdoin is the closest to civilization and hardest to get into. Bates is further away but not an awful trip. Colby is most remote (Bates is roughly halfway between Bowdoin and Colby). This also matters particularly for an athlete because away games from Colby are more of a trek than from Bates or Bowdoin. |

Edgy Liberal… it’s not mainstream if students fixate on whether Bates is suffering from “Performative Male Epidemic” and whether that could lead to gender openness, whatever that means. Not saying it’s a bad place to spend 4 years. But it’s liberal. That might work for a lot of kids. Or not.

You don't have a great ear for satire, do you PP? |
Seriously. Even this cranky Gen Xer knows that the “performative male” trope is a bit that has been sweeping college campuses (and cities) for months. Is Bates too liberal for doing the “6-7” thing as well? |
| Very liberal/woke with a plain campus. |
| Don't go! |
How so? |

RRPC-Race, Power, Privilege and Colonialism. You can't avoid this being in your classes even If you major in mathematics or physics. |
WTF does this even mean? |
Colby is spending fast and hoping that the money catches up. It's not a bad strategy as a bottom half NESCAC trying to be relevant. |
Your post is complete fiction. |
Colby just got a $150 million donation from an anonymous donor. They seem to have some very wealthy benefactors. I liked Bates more but Colby definitely has deeper pockets. |
NESCAC campuses range in size from 100 acres, at Trinity, to 1350 acres, at Hamilton. The Bates campus falls at the lower end of this range, at 133 acres. |
