High School Soccer - Boys

MLS Next Homegrowns cannot play HS soccer, their clubs will be fined if caught. Other than that, they are all allowed to play. VDA didn't let their boys do it a few years ago, but they have had to change with the times as well.

Our HS roster is filled with MLSNext players- club not the DC United academy.

It’s a private and it seems now anyone plays whether they got financial aid or not. Nobody is recruited for soccer at our HS so it does not affect admissions.

The families lie and tell the league it's a condition that they play for the PRIVATE high school because of their scholarship or a part of the admissions requirements.

Yeah, it is such a joke right now. Either allow it (and allow the clubs to make the decision) or ban it for everyone. The fact that they favor/reward the kids going to these expensive private schools is insane.

HS soccer is def REC level if you're currently playing MSLN HD.

All the private school Alexandria kids play HS. And, yeah- not a condition of admission or scholarship. These HS don’t give scholarships.

It’s just a joke now. But, unfortunately, some of the public school kids are hurt by the rules since they are honest.

You will get injured too. Doing both at the sane time is a recipe for disaster.

If your kid is the type who always works hard, it will be completely exhausting to have a 2.5 hour practice, even with a fair amount of 'dead' time (meaning, they completely waste an hour but still have 1.5 hours where it's intense if, as a player, you make it intense).

Training/playing on the school team every day after school, plus 4 days a week for club, with multiple games per week once the season starts, plus a club game on the weekends, is a crazy schedule.

Apart from being physically exhausted, it gives them very little time for studying/homework, plus no chance to do other extracurriculars.

This is why many kids don't WANT to play both club and school -- especially boys who realize that, even if they are ECNL starters, they are borderline, at best, to be recruited for Div I or desirable Div II or III schools.

No body lays club amd high school at the same time in our area. With a mls waiver, they may go to one practice a week. ENCL teams don’t practice during the high school season.

^ one HS or one MLSnext.

If it’s just one mlsnext practice and the rest HS, a player is not going to progress. They will lose a lot playing HS level for a season.

Depends on the conference. The MIAA always has multiple teams ranked in the T20 in the country and many D1 commits.

Which school will be the first to be caught using MLS next players?

Hurt in that they are honest and some moved to ECNL in order to play HS or didn’t play HS because you know- they were ethical and followed the rules. It’s the typical thing is this country- the “good” and moral get screwed.

Never understood why someone would voluntarily choose to sign-up for MLS Next then be devastated to not play HS

You literally chose not to play HS

Both programs, if the kids follow the rules will be significantly worse than last year. Last year, most of the kids were ECNL which wasn't an issue. Both schools loss a ton of top end seniors too.
