Girl wash hairs

Once blow dried after wash, her hair volume is like afro, large volume 2x her face. No matter how much conditioner I put on, they are dry and fuzzy, and tangled sometimes. She is not black and she has straight hair.

She needs a haircut.

Agreed that she needs a haircut. Her ends are likely dry and broken and causing the frizz. Plus layers will help thin it out and make it easier to manage. Then a very moisturizing shampoo only when it’s smells and a heavy duty conditioner. With hair that fluffs like that, you may want ethnic hair care products. My kid’s hair loves shea butter, but can’t handle most coconut oil products.

Yes, every day when they take a shower. We used to only shower/bathe ever other day but then they started smelling, LOL! Sniff her hair on day 2 and then you'll know. Hair can smell really bad really quickly.

Tell that to people on this thread that swear their unwashed hair doesn’t smell.

Why would you say gross? Lots of people wash their hair once a week. Most of my daughter’s friends wash their hair once a week.

I wash my hair twice a day because it needs it. But everyone is different. I think once a week is too little.

People may think it is too much, but every hairdresser I go to says my hair is so natural and beautiful and healthy, so it works for me.

Shower with hair every other day. Daily during summer camp. Age 7.

I think people need to be specific about shampooing hair versus "washing". I only shampoo DD's hair once or twice a week, when it feels like it needs it. But she showers daily and when I don't shampoo it I still wash it using conditioner, including a scalp massage. It smells nice after this.

It's just sometimes there's enough buildup of oil in the scalp to need to remove some with shampoo, and sometimes not. That's it. The hair gets cleaned every day, but shampoo can be a harsher cleaning agent than necessary, especially if you are prone to dryness and frizz. Some people just use the sulfate free shampoos, but I find these cause too much buildup -- we prefer to use a clarifying shampoo, but more sparingly.

My girls (both under 11) have long hair and are in team sports. They shower daily and wash their hair every other day. They do this themselves with my wife sometimes helping them with the brushing.

I wash my own curly hair every other day. It does start to stink by day 2. My daughter has straighter hair and also washes every other day. I just got her a clarifying shampoo becuase her scalp stunk so bad. It turns out she wasn’t rinsing properly and had a lot of build up of old shampoo and oils.

It sounds like your daughter needs a haircut and a more regular shampoo/conditioning routine (every other day or every 2-3 days) to help get the tangles out.

First of all, you don’t “wash” hair with conditioner. Conditioner will lead to build up. You are also supposed to only use conditioner on the middle to ends of the hair, not your scalp.

People understand (except you apparently) that washing your hair is synonymous with shampooing.

Please wash her hair daily or every other day and BRUSH daily. I so often see girls with stringy greasy unbrushed hair, and it just isn’t fair for your child. She will be judged on her hygiene.

My kids wash daily. Hair is every other or every 2 days. Daily bushings with detangler. One kid sweats with her head so we wash hair more often and the other doesn't yet. We do grownup shampoo and conditioner though.

It sounds like you don’t know how to manage her hair.

The first step is to cut it closer to shoulder length — she can still have long hair, but waist length is too much, especially if you’re bad at taking care of it.

Also, why are you blow drying her hair??? Use a towel and let it dry naturally. She probably has wavy hair if it blows up to an Afro when you blow dry.

Lastly, learn how to braid hair. If you put her hair in French braids that will protect it and still look nice. If she’s not in sports or getting sweaty, washing hair twice a week is fine.

Good luck!
