The men who bike down CT Ave into DC are the worst. The WORST!
They weave in and out of cars, coming dangerously close to getting hit and/or causing accidents when cars hit their brakes out of fear. I’ve been commuting down CT Ave for nearly 30 years, and I’ve seen it all: bikers hitting cars, weaving and falling off their bikes, hitting curbs as they try to squeeze between cars and the curb, etc. One 20 something girl crashed into the back of my car after i had been stopped at a light. My two cents: 1. Nobody should be allowed to ride a bike on major commuter roads like CT and 16th; they should create alternate bike routes on side streets and they can park and walk their last leg like the rest of us. 2. For the love of God, someone needs to dismantle the outdoor seating in the STREET on CT Ave that blocks the right lane and creates traffic every single morning. |
In DC. But it is to be treated as a yield sign. |
The OP has a bad victimhood complex. |
| It's worse when they ride on the sidewalk, so... |
I disagree. Since there are hardly any bikes on the road and very few people on the sidewalk on most parts of CT Ave, I’d rather have the bikes on the sidewalk. |
| Bicyclist are annoying and they should follow the rules of the road. But to be fair so many car drivers do not fully stop at stop signs. They treat them as yield signs all the time too. Both should be ticketed. |
| Are you in DC? I am not and NO one, cars, bikes, walkers, stops at stop signs. They are only suggestions now. I'm surprised more pedestrians aren't dead. |
|
It’s legal in dc to treat as yield.
The better question is: Why don’t cars stop at stop signs— or even red lights?! |
+100 There are many reckless drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, but the drivers cause the most damage to other people while cyclists and pedestrians mostly injure themselves. |
| Oh look, a DCUM thread about hooligan cyclists. Golly. |
If they start paying extra taxes for their bikes, bike liability insurance, extra taxes on food, etc., and they can keep up with traffic speeds, that's fine and dandy. But they better not doddle or get in the way. |
“Doddle?” 😳 |

If you coast through a stop sign, you're going slow enough that you can see and going 1 mph is basically like being stopped, you could stop if you need to. You don't need as much stopping distance as a car, so you keep going to keep up momentum. If you stop, you have to exert more energy to get going again. If you stop suddenly, you might crash. That's probably the thought process. It's also faster to bike on the road like you're a car because the road doesn't have pedestrians on it or sidewalks that might not be smooth.
If you are a driver, just give the biker room and don't pass if they are in the road unless there is room to do it safely. |
| Cyclists are the most self-centered, loathsome creatures of all time. Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. |
| I saw a bicycle whiz down a street, full speed, and SCREAM bloody murder at a car who was turning the corner in front of him. He went ape sh*t on the driver. |
