I feel sorry for the tweens without phones

I feel like I'm reading a post from 2013. With everything we now know about screens and particularly phones, it's hard to believe an adult of tweens in 2025 would believe this much less post it.

They will grow into successful adults who will nevertheless always yearn for those happy school or college days they never had.

You do realize that when we were teens we managed to make plans with friends without any of us having cell phones, right? Trust me, plenty of people still make plans the caveman way by talking to people and remembering the time date and place. Especially for the so-called fast kids who dont want to leave a paper trail. Word of mouth is timeless.

I think the girl who was left out of this secret party was left out for othr reasons. If her fake friends wanted her there, they would have told her face to face.

If you actually had a tween (even one without a phone) you would know this is simply the reality. Like it or not.

My 7th grader has a phone but I still need to hear from a parent before she goes to that person's house.

Also, many of her classmates are in the group chat using the family iPad or a smart watch, not on the child's personal phone. I mistakenly thought "everybody" had phones but it turned out they mostly just had icloud accounts.

My 3 kids didn't get smart phones --Gabb only--until August before 9th grade. Guess what, they had plenty of friends and normal social lives.

Thanks for the PSA Miss Briley

Those poor kids - think of all the books they might read with all that free and boring non phone time

I have 2 tweens actually! Neither have phones. And it's not the reality. It's just what parents like you tell yourself to justify your decision to give in and let them have phones.

So they don’t get included in plans with biggest a-hole kids and parents? Oh no, what a shame!

Yeah, my kid does have a phone and some people do think the kids without are babies. But in terms of communication and planning, it’s not a big deal. I don’t know a single kid who doesn’t have access to an iPad. It works just fine for them. We emphasize with our own kid that the phone is for communication, not playing games or social media. I would have preferred waiting but we decided not to fight that battle.

We heavily restrict our teens' phone use. Parents like you are the problem. They don't have much time between school, sports and activities they choose.

An Ipad is the same thing without cellular.

+1 The fast and clueless parent crowd. My kid is plenty popular without a cellphone. If someone really needs to get ahold of them, the kid or their parent writes me.
