Gaithersburg / rockville

I need license contractor who can suggest what do i need to do and provide estimate instead of me explaining this is the way to do or this how i am thinking.. i would like to know contractors suggestion and thought process and suggestion.
Contractor i call was mostly relying on my information seems like they just want to do finish job and without putting any suggestion what is better in long run and how can it be helpful in potential house value.. how county code works , what are the county inspection requirement etc etc..

I would like to hear from them instead telling them if you are aware of it bla bla bla..

You need to know what you want at least. Time is money for them so if you are expecting them to spend a lot of their time answering your questions, you are being unreasonable. They may give you a ballpark figures based on what you want.

I am going to give them business spending lot of money , i am clear what i want based on that they need to be specific and provide me . As estimate. As a contractor i believe its their experience and duty to suggest what will be better for client

Good contractors are busy enough and not hungry enough.

Do not move the bathroom or laundry if at all possible. At least don't move plumbing.
We had our basement finished 30 years ago. 32x24 house, concrete slab flooring. We had stairwell and walls drywalled and painted, bathroom with shower installed on existing capped pipes and drain, about 3/4 of area made into family room and office. 1/4 was left unfinished as utility room and storage. It cost $25k then, permitted and inspected. Arlington

We made one mistake: genuine wood parquet flooring. It's humid in summer with a/c on and it buckles a bit as wood expands. Have to run dehumidifier May to September.
Don't get wood!

I am not going to open concrete slab / floor. I would like to remove the drywall which in middle adjacent to stairs.

I’ve been in the same boat trying to find someone reliable for basement work, and I ended up using Blue Collar Scholars here in DC. They were super transparent with their estimates and actually walked me through potential problem areas before starting, which helped avoid surprises later.

Their pricing was fair compared to others I got quotes from, and the quality of the work was excellent. They handled our basement remodel and some other home updates — solid craftsmanship and really good communication throughout.
