omg get the peanuts. if you're getting kung pao, have the peanuts. Add Pad Thai (with the peanuts) to this list. |
I also don’t think you need to ask. But I would understand their spice tolerance. In these situations, I personally like to get 2-3 dishes and get two orders rather than one each of 5. Otherwise, it sometimes feels like you’re just getting a taste. |

Most of my friends aren’t allowed things Jewish and we don’t eat pork, and two are pescatarian so here’s what we’d order:
Ha gow (steamed shrimp dumplings) Shrimp fried rice String beans Corn soup Beef and broccoli Chicken lo mein |
| We usually order Sichuan todu/bean curd, Sichuan string beans, Sichuan eggplant, king pao ( may contain peanut), lo mein ( fried noodle), fried rice. We don’t order spring roll since it’s usually have very thick skin with not much filling, if you want can get frozen spring roll from Costco just bake it, taste much better. |
| Tofu* |
To be honest, if it's only 5 people, I don't see why you wouldn't just text them and order exactly what each one of them requests, like you would if ordering lunch at work. Plus extra stuff for the group if OP wants leftovers. |
Because if you ask each person then you have to serve it to that person not put everything out buffet style. Bob feels ownership over his honey walnut shrimp that he was expecting and is annoyed that he only got to eat 1/5 because everyone else took some of his. Even worse if someone took more than 1/5 and Bob didn’t really like the other options. |

Ask your guests.

| This is such a bizarre thing to crowdsource. We don't know about their allergies, food preferences, or dietary restrictions. |
Who gives a shit about those things. You're hosting, get what you want. You can't live life worried about other people's weird, deviant food issues. They'll come and either they'll eat or not. Whatever. |
Well yeah, I would just serve each person their dish like at a restaurant. Maybe order extra servings of things that sounded good that OP wouldn't mind as leftovers. |
+100. Hooray. |
This, exactly. You're hosting a gathering, not running a restaurant. |
NP: If I'm having people to my home, it's because I am close with them and love them. I'm not Southern, where I invite in every rando who rings the doorbell. If you're in my home, we're close. And if we're close, I want to serve you food you'll like. So I will order dishes I know someone likes, and leave out a food someone else abhors, and make sure there's stuff for the person who is vegetarian, etc. |
Is Kung Pao chicken without peanuts even possible? Isn’t it with peanuts by definition! If do that just get General Tso or Phoenix chicken |
