| tl;dr unless you want a trad Christian school (no shade, we do!) you’re doing Waldorf |
We're in a conservative Catholic school and love it, but it is odd that the options are so extremely limited outside of the conservative Catholic/Christian world. You'd think there would be a lane for an ideologically middle-of-the-road low-tech school. |
+1. Our DS attended there. We are not Catholic. |
Totally agree with this and wish there were more options (but glad we have some!). Evidence seems to be supporting that phone free is good but doesn't go far enough. From Jonathan Haidt's substack: https://www.afterbabel.com/p/false-promise-of-device-based-ed |
The irony that I read this scrolling through my cell phone while perusing DCUM. |
Agree! But we want better for our kids, no?! And, the horse will be out of the barn soon enough. No need to skip the critical skill building years. |

We would love to do Waldorf, but it’s too far for us. We are in Herndon. Is there anything out in Loudoun? We looked at Virginia Academy, but could not believe how much they use computers. We want a school that does not allow any personal electronic devices.

| So check out the Carholic schools near you (if a Catholic school would fit). Many are much lower tech than public. As PP already noted, there is some variation from school to school. |
| Saint Anselms Abbey. No tech and true classical education. |
| Are there any zero technology schools that aren’t not catholic around here? |
Loudoun classical has permanently closed. Anyone have experience with Ambleside they can share? |
Plenty are Protestant. |
| But what’s up with the Waldorf fairies and gnomes? |
| St Jerome academy, holy redeemer college park ( less conservative, minimal tech use ) |
+1 classical education with no pointless screentime |
