Preppy/"Old" Money DC - tell me everything

Lots of new money. Most old money families have spent all their money.

Yes, this. Most "old" families don't have a ton of inherited money left. My husband is like a 10th+ generation local Northern Virginian. They had a friend who was from an even older family that was a professional equestrian move in with them for a while because she ran out of money.

- Wesley Heights/Spring Valley/CCV/Georgetown
- Christ Church (Georgetown)
- Blue Igloo/Little Folks/Little Graces
- Beauvoir
- STA/NCS (but more Holton lately)
- Ivy for smarties/athletes, mid-tier northeast lib arts for the rest, UVA/UNC/Vandy/Duke for Southerners, Sewanee/Trinity for non-academically inclined
- Commercial real estate
- Met Club, Sulgrave, CCC
- MV, Nantucket, Gibson Island, Jackson Hole, Maine

Did I miss anything?

I've never heard Sewanee described as for non academically inclined. Wbery alum I know is an attorney, dentist, or doctor.

Lol, yes. 99% of the specific crowd you are referring to works in commercial real estate.

whoops. It looks like I'm referring to Sewanee.
I meant the crowd that OP is talking about, not Sewanee in particular.

All lot of this seems new money to me. Old money DC to me is things like getting your Christmas cards engraved at Brewood, being a member of the Friday Morning Music Club, having a contact at Weschler's who calls you when certain pieces are going to come up at auction, etc.

Only in old money circles. So, don’t worry about it - you won’t mix

My family is old money Illinois - think schools and streets named after us. My generation - no one lives in Illinois and at least where I live it doesn’t matter so much anymore.

Enlighten me? I'm what you'd consider "old money", but not US "old money". Is it a DC thing or an American thing?

As my dad says about our family "we're money so old there isn't any left".

Pretty much this. Messes with money. Think Kennedys.

The Kennedys are a whole different subculture.
