What IQ is needed for a kid to be a top student in high school and have time for varsity sports?

This is a hard question to answer because most kids who are highly functioning enough to be a top student while playing a varsity sport would never have needed an IQ test. For multiple sport athletes? Forget about it.

It’s 100% executive functioning and personality. My youngest is brighter than her older sister, but the older sister excels and work commitment and organization. She thrives on planning and staying busy. That keeps her having As in advanced classes. I can barely get the youngest to turn in completed work on time. It would be difficult for her to balance school and sports.

I don’t think there is a single recipe. My DC is a high performance athlete in an individual sport. DC trains 20-25 hours a week outside of school (top DMV private). Kid is top 10 percent of graduating class + NMSF. What makes it all possible is DC’s high processing speed and pragmatic approach to academics.

This has got to be one of the silliest questions ever.

Yes, it depends primarily on time management, not intellect but also the specific sport or sports and the school and what "top" means.

There's no rule. If your kid is having fun with sports and it's not hugely interfering with school, don't worry about it.

+1. You beat me to it but I was going to guess 121.67

This! Any above average IQ can do it with strong executive functioning. I suppose with a higher IQ, your EF can be a little lacking.
