There have been 15 murders after the NG showed up on August 12. There were 100 in 2025 before that. Are you implying that there isn’t a difference between 15 divided by 2 1/2 months and 100 divided by 7 1/2 months? I don’t know what you think you’re proving by reposting what OP posted. Bizarre. |

Dude, that single reference point means nothing and does not by itself indicate in any way shape or form that the NG has reduced crime in DC. How many murders can you seriously maintain have been prevented by their presence? |

No one is claiming the NG is fighting crime. They are doing stuff like patrolling areas, being a show of force during sports and entertainment events, and even doing things like putting up roadblocks on Canal Road while people trim brush from the roadway. All these things take MPD away from fighting crime, which they can now focus on more thanks to the NG. This is not rocket science. As for 9 shootings, there were plenty of shootings before the NG. What has changed since they showed up is that murder rate has dropped by 100% per month compared to January - mid August figures. We can’t do an extensive month to month comparison (9/25 vs 9/24; 11/25 vs 11/24; etc) because they haven’t been here that long, obviously. But the trend in murders since they’ve been here has been substantially improving. |

I grew up in DC and lived there for over a decade when I was younger. I was forced to leave because of the violence. I could not live with myself putting my children in harm’s way due to DC democrats’ failed policies. I have every right to speak on this issue. Honestly, I tend to agree that I can’t say the NG itself is behind the decrease in crime, but to argue that the statistics do not show a drastic and unprecedented decline in violent crime. Personally, I tend to believe the much more impactful action was empowering the DC police and fed LE to take action against violent criminals, and flooding the zone with LE. Has it been solved? No. But Trump has - in one year - managed to make significant progress on an issue that DC’s corrupt liberal leadership has failed to be able to address since the 1950s A problem that has led to many marginalized and minority residents absolutely terrified on leaving their house. The majority of DC residents I know are so damn thankful for Trump’s dedication to their cause because, as a city that voted 90+% against him, it would be easy for him to turn his back, ignore the problem, and let the city continue to burn. |

Or - hear me out - the number of murders dropping in this 2.5 month time frame is part of the continuation of a trend of lower crime over the past 2.5 years. Crazy, right? DC has always had the most LEOs per capita of any major U.S. city. |

Crazy that there are an average of 6 murders per month since the NG appeared vs 13 per month in 2025 before they came? Yes, pretty crazy, especially considering we are factoring in months like January, February and March into that 13/month pre NG figure, when it’s cold as hell and people don’t usually murder as much as in hotter months like August and September. |

One would have to record National Guard patrol areas, times vs crimes record in those pre, during and post National Guard. In addition you would have to account for the reduction of the number people visiting DC because of armed soldiers patrolling the streets. Less people less crime.
Now the National Guard does not go in to the areas where crime is high. They walk around the mall eating ice cream. NG can not do police work. So why would there be an impact on crime? Now let’s talk about the cost. DC national guard has cost $201 million to September 16th alone. DC NG accounts for 36% of the force deployed. So somewhere north of $585 million for the other states NG. Is it worth $780 million dollars the non existent results? |

All that link shows me is that the highest number of yearly D.C. homicides in the last 20 years occurred in 2023. The highest number of homicides in the U.S. occurred in 2021, and they’ve been dropping since. D.C. completely bucked the trend in 2023. That’s telling. |

| I've seen the NG at various metro stations, and I don't understand the purpose. Like does Farragut West have a crime problem that requires three NG members? And even when I've seen them sporadically at stations that might be more problematic like Gallery Place, they just stand there and talk to each other in one place -- they're not spread out throughout the station. Just doesn't make any sense. |

They’ve been here less than three months. That’s no data at all. But yes if you flood any major American city with National Guard troops to do the bullshit stuff that local police sometimes have to do that likely frees up the local police to focus more on actual crime. But that doesn’t mean that it’s the right or most cost effective way to do things. And again, I will ask, where in DC do you live? Like me, when you walk out your front door do you NG troops stealing shade from the tree in front of your house while scrolling their phones or crowding the entrance to the quiet corner store where you bring your grandkids to buy candy? Somehow I doubt it. Tell me where you are and I’ll tell you how I think things should be where you are. |

| There will always be crime with or without the NG. Criminals could care less about the NG. The city needs more policeman. They are under staffed. Laws need to be changed. They aren't going to change the current laws. Protect yourself with pepper spray. Watch your back. |
