Future Northwood parents, time to organize

You are out of the loop. Northwood theater has become a highly regarded program since Mr. Harwood took over. Sadly, Einstein’s program is on the decline after Mr. Smealie retired. Northwood did unedited Rent and Antigone (as in Sophocles Greek tragedy) last year and they were fantastic. They did that without an auditorium which is even more impressive.

Northwood parents are absolutely fighting for that theater program.

Didn’t an Einstein 2025 graduate perform on a Broadway stage last year? And didn’t the school have a Cappie Award winner the year before that? My child is also a theatre kid, but let’s not downplay the strength of Einstein’s theatre program. Besides, a Humanities program would still include a strong theatre component. The truth is, Einstein doesn’t have a foundation in humanities — that program would be a much better fit for Northwood.

I have been in touch with leaders at the Northwood PTSA and they are welcoming of future Northwood families and Northwood supporters, so I would reach out to join their listserv and assist in their advocacy efforts.

If they have a law program, the humanities makes sense. However, reality is that even if they gave Northwood a humanities program it would mean nothing as they aren't giving extra staffing.

The new theater tacher is trying hard and well liked. Both should have strong arts programs. This magnet is fake as they aren't giving any extra funding or teachers.

From my experience, PTSAs tend to want to stay out of the fray, so don't be disappointed if you encounter a lot of inertia or half-interest. I hope Northwood PTSA is not this way.

This is why I think they are putting the humanities magnet at Whitman. That and bc they are underutilized. There’s no funding for new teachers, just some money for training teachers.

Using these programs to balance facility utilization in this way is horrendous. Just draw better boundaries, my god people. You wouldn't shut up about equity for years and now the rubber hits the road and you're like oh let's put some magnets in the wealthiest schools so we don't make anybody too uncomfortable!

Just checked and potentially more than that actually— Option B minus current enrollment = 632 students.
