For all the Monday morning quarterbacks saying the family should have gone to the police or done something else, it’s easy to say that now .Heck, if it was my kid, I probably would have switched to homeschooling, but I’m not sure the father knew where to turn. I’m sure the father did what he thought was best at the time.

Point being: it is not the school's fault.

If the allegations are true, that this murdered Herndon high student was receiving death threats from fellow Herndon high students and that the family went to the school resource officer and that the school dropped the ball, then I’d say the school system is at fault.

The number one job for Herndon High and FCPS is to keep students safe.

While tragic, I thought he was murdered outside of school. It's not clear to me that doing a schedule change at school would have changed the outcome.

Here is the message from the principal. I suspect the parents wanted to raise awareness in the school community but the e-mail is opaque regarding what happened. Normally, no one finds about these situations in FCPS.

October 16, 2025

Dear Families,

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of one of our students. This is a heartbreaking loss for our community.

With the family’s permission, I can share that we are mourning the loss of Evin Herrera Pineda, a junior at our school. He will be remembered for being extremely hard working, intelligent, and supportive of his family. Evin’s family also wanted our community to remember the importance of connection and to encourage students to seek support from trusted adults, who are often parents, family members, or teachers. These individuals can be a helpful and trusted resource as students navigate tough situations.

The death of a young person is difficult for all of us. If your child is affected by this news, please encourage them to share their feelings and reach out for support. Our school counseling team is available on site to meet with students and families who may need assistance in processing what has happened.

For after-hours support, FCPS partners with the CrisisLink Regional Hotline at 703-527-4077 or by text at “NEEDHELP” to 85511. This web page also has resources that you can use to support your child during this difficult time.

On behalf of our entire Herndon staff, our deepest condolences go out to the student’s family and friends during this time of loss.

Sincerely,

Liz Noto

He was murder near an FCPS elementary school, I believe. It sounded like the death threats were from fellow Herndon High students.

That also begs the question, are those kids still at the school?

i can predict without looking that the family are recent immigrants, and that the killers will be other recent immigrants, and probably related to gang violence.

I can also predict that Warner, Kaine, James R. Walkinshaw, Subramanyam, Suhas will NEVER set foot in the community.

Democrats unleashed the overwhelming immigration and then retreat to their gated communities.

Interesting...I saw the end of this interview on NBC4 the other day. I wanted to see the whole thing so searched their site and googled but couldn't find anything. Thanks for posting.

It’s really weird that this isn’t bigger news. It’s gotta be the talk of HHS, especially if the perpetrators are still enrolled at the school. I would not feel safe at HHS right now.

I'm sure it is safe at the school.

Ironically, he was killed near Hutchison--which is where --a few years ago--that the site could be used for a new Western High School. It was a terrible site for many reasons--it would not have been in the area that needed the school, and the traffic patterns would have been terrible.

Tell me how you feel about all the crimes being committed by pardoned January 6 criminals?

Sadly we didn't get much of a debrief at all. Students I'm sure are discussing it amongst themselves, but we didn't even have a moment of silence for the student. There's been know follow-up or information provided to teachers at all. It's quite ironic, because this happened right after we had a training from social workers about trauma and mental crisis, but then this was pretty much passed over.

He was found at 9:30 pm and he had been playing soccer right there immediately before he was shot. There are kids soccer practices at that exact field Mon-Fri. I'm honestly shocked no one has been arrested yet when there are clearly known suspects.

I've been googling and trying to determine the lighting situation. According to what I found, there is one lighted field. It is dark by 7 p.m. We don't really know if he was playing soccer or not, but I agree it is likely. There is a lot we do not know and the dad may not know either.

If I were an uninformed parent at Herndon High, that principal's letter would make me think it was a suicide or drug overdose.

Wow, worth watching this NBC interview. Sounds like the Herndon High student who was shot dead last week was getting death threats from his classmates and the family called FCPS about it, but they never followed up with the family.

Did you listen to it? Because the reporter clearly points out that FCPS said there is no record of a call being made to the school. I'm not saying that is correct, but your reaction insists a call was made when that is disputed.
