The donation will be used to fund several science-related initiatives at Colby. Included in those investments are a $300 million, state-of-the-art, science complex; new academic programs in science and engineering; support for the state’s K-12 STEM education; and partnerships that will strengthen Maine’s science and technology economy.

“Colby has long had outstanding science programs, and that work has been deeply connected to other scientific organizations across the state and around the world," said Colby College President David A. Greene, in the news release. "These investments will allow us to take that work to a new level, ensuring that science education and the application of scientific knowledge and discovery are addressing the needs of Maine. Importantly, it allows Colby to be at the forefront of educating the next generation of science and technology leaders who will carry with them a deep understanding of the human dimensions of science and the need to ensure that the power of science is used for a broader societal good,” Greene added.

Colby making a run at the “best SLAC in northern New England crown.” Sorry, Midd.

Good luck with that. Colby while a great school will never even be the best school in Maine.

Bowdoin

Ain't a dime's worth of difference between Colby, Bowdoin, Bates, and Middlebury, sorry.

Well with donations like this one, Colby will have better science infrastructure than those others.

Bowdoin already has 2.5x endowment per student than Colby, and Colby 2x that of Bates. https://www.collegeraptor.com/college-rankings/details/EndowmentPerStudent/State/ME/

Colby already has a better endowment per student than Midd, though, so this will accelerate its ongoing ascent over Midd.

In literally what way? Everyone is investing into science. They’re 7 years behind Amherst, many years behind Bowdoin, 7 years behind Williams, etc.

Do you have a source for that? Sounds like a poorly substantiated opinion to me.

Colby is passing Midd and left Bates long time ago.

Lol. Keep telling yourself that. Colby's peer assessment score tells the fuller story. It's on the same level as Bates and Colgate.

Prestige doesn't happen overnight. It takes decades.

You have the power to look up Amherst’s science center, Bowdoin various research centers for the environment, coast, and attic, and Williams’ renovated and improved science center. It’s interesting that the people who are the least educated are the loudest mouthed and always want you to do research for them.

But I’m so curious at how you arrived at your very specific conclusion about the number of years the schools are ahead. Or do you just have a fondness for the number 7?

well the buildings have to be built. They have to have press releases. Those press releases have to be public. Once again, internet free.
