The message above was sent to BCC parents via Parent Square. Here's the full version (looks like the PP lost a few words)
"Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School is currently in a Secure status due to a report of a bomb threat made to the school. The call was made to county police, not the school. Police are on-site and supporting with a scan of the school. If this effort impacts the timing of dismissal, we will send a follow-up message." |

OP here.
My daughter said that initially, they were told it was a lockdown, and then they went to secure, and they are searching the school for a bomb, which will perhaps impact dismissal, because last time they did that, it took a while. |
| OP here. They're free to leave. |
| Seems like it is related to the swatting incident at NWHS. |

Latest message (237): Secure status has been lifted at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. The police have finished their scan of the building, resulting in no bomb being found. The school was not in a Lockdown at any time during this incident. Dismissal will begin shortly.
Second-time BCC parent here, I have no complaints with the way this was handled. Quick communication, quick resolution. |
| I knew because our middle school buses were delayed |
I know. I’m at BCC too. But getting minute to minute updates from your kid on a cell phone they’re not supposed to be using during the school day doesn’t change the outcome of a crappy situation. |
Which middle school? My Westland 6th grader gets dropped off right outside BCC but we didn’t receive any communication from the middle school about bus delays. |
| Kingsview Middle school went on Secure status around dismissal time on Tuesday. No specific reason given, just "possible threat" to the school. |
OP here. Just lay off, will ya: my kid was in PE, where the teacher cancelled the activities, gave them all free points and allowed cell phone use. I'm sure some DCUM readers are glad I made the thread. |
Well if you’re sure that spreading rumors to the Internet at large is a great thing, congratulations . I don’t see the purpose of this when MCPS shared a communication to all those in the BCC zone very quickly.

Yeah phone were given back to the students as initially they called for a secure lockdown and we remained on it for about 15 minutes, before the AP corrected her initial call and clarified it wasn’t a lockdown but a secure. |
+1 |
Locks like despite whatever training MCPS claims they did with admin over the summer, that there's still not a good sense of when the schools are going into one status versus the other. |
+1. It wasn’t even a lockdown OP, it was a secure, so maybe we can get the moderator to lock or delete this thread. |
