Schools In Burke

The commute from DC to Burke is NOT 45 minutes on a normal basis. I used to live in West Springfield, right before Burke and it would take me a hour at least or more to get home leaving DC right around 4:30pm. Bad weather or an accident - and the time would often go up to 90 minutes.

The morning commute was quicker but just getting to the highway from Burke can take 15 to 20 minutes on a normal day given the lights and the amount of just normal day to day traffic.

I don't think you necessarily have to assume you'd be living in a "dump" in Arlington, McLean, etc. It's hard to beat good schools and a good commute....even if you end up with a little less house.

It's true you'll get more for you money outside the Beltway, you just have to decide how far out you're willing to go. My personal favorite areas further out are Great Falls (which sometimes has reasonably priced properties) and Mantua in Fairfax (feeds into Woodson).

I'm not the original poster but I am also thinking about Burke and West Springfield. Our budget is 475k-500k, and we need 3 beds/ 2baths minimum (4 beds would be ideal.) Please correct me if I am wrong but that seems impossible for Arlington, Falls Church, McLean, etc?

It's possible but you'll probably have to do some work on the house. Example:
