I’d start with PCP first |
OP here- was able to see an orthopedist. It is severs. Thanks for all your help and suggestions. |
Has he taken any fluoroquinolone antibiotics lately? |
Our son had that... a little bit younger than your son. We took him back to the Shoe Train in bethesda, where they actually measure a kid's foot—they said his feet were wide and regular shoes were not giving him the support. Said it was extremely common. Found him with a wider pair of shoes and it stopped immediately. We have to pay special attention to all this with his cleats in particular but it has really helped. Try a good shoe store where someone knowledgable about fitting of shoes can help you—their feet are growing so quickly at that age, it's actually quite hard to get a good fitting shoe. |
We went to Washington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. My now almost 13yo had Severs for about a year fairly consistently and badly. He’s now almost 13 and he still feels it occasionally but it’s tolerable and goes away totally for long periods. From the area you describe, it sounds like it could be Severs.
Does your son play sports? Mines a soccer player and the cleats make it worse. |
