Downtime suggestions

My almost 13 year old has had many days that we’re working at home but her friends aren’t around. She’s been really creative! I know you asked other than sports…soccer is her sport, but she’s been roller blading, biking, and doing yoga so that’s a bit different from her sport. She’s trying to make a higher level for her flute this year, so she’s been practicing her audition piece well in advance. She has been awesome about picking up work around the house and helping us without being asked - loading and unloading the dishwasher, taking out the trash, folding laundry etc. She’s still little in many ways and loves animals, so she’s been recording animal sightings in a notebook and taking her binoculars to the local park for birdwatching, but also playing pretend vet or similar games when her little sister (8) is around. Today I got back from dropping the sister off at camp and my 12 year old was teaching herself how to bake chocolate chip cookies from scratch. (She ended up putting scoops that were much too large on the tray, but she’d learning.) Happily her best friend is back from travel so they’ve been together a lot the last few days - yesterday they watched Wimbledon, cooked out, and swam. I dropped her off at 8 am and didn’t get her back until almost 10 pm. Today they decided to run a lemonade stand to raise money for the animal shelter (thus the cookies).

Pp here - last week she asked me to help her collect trash along a bike path. A little girl saw us and got inspired, which made my DD very happy.
