What? Certainly not. |
It depends on how many hours you’re teaching. I’d say it’s closer to a hobby job for me and a few of my girlfriends who teach part time at community college and university levels (part time staff not adjunct) and for a few other moms I know who work at schools in various part time roles. For the full time k-12 teachers and admins I know it’s a time consuming career even though they are by far the lower earning spouses. |
No. It's a career. Coaching part time, tutoring part time - those are hobby jobs. |
I’ve never heard of the term ‘hobby job.’ Is that something Boomers say? |
Of my parents’ retired friends, those who are in the best financial position are almost all retired teachers. But sure it was a hobby. |
Absolutely not -- hobby jobs are ones that don't actually contribute that much to society (like... making jewelry or something). Teaching is one of the most essential jobs in our society. It's just not well paid in the US because there is not capitalist payoff for good teaching (there is, but its too long term). It's well paid in some other countries. |
This is an obvious troll, people. |
Holy crap, are you joking. Teaching is a HARD JOB with long hours in the non-summer months. A hobby job is like making jewelry for your Etsy store or doing MLM. |
Lol. Who the hell would do this job for fun? I literally know no one who is a teacher who does it as a hobby. It is a job to me and I walk out the door at the end of my contracted hours and don’t do anything else until the next day. |
This. and this is why teachers are done. |
It’s a troll post that no one agrees with so teachers should take nothing from it. |
no these are often paired with teaching. Please stop with the insults to people who work, coach and teach your children. |
It's constant so stop....it's not one troll it's many rude people. I appreciate you seeing it as ridiculous but you are sadly not the norm. |
Teaching is either a poverty job or a hobby job now. Salaries haven't kept up with workload or requirements. |
I disagree that it has been characterized as such by the majority of posters. One rando? Maybe. Actual people, no. |
