I am not much of a book reader but decided to start this summer with books in my house. So I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love. I am finding the author a little annoying but it's well written. |
Behind Every Good Man by Sara Goodman Confino. It takes place in the 1960s, about local Maryland politics and battling the gender barriers. I’m liking it a lot so far! |
I'm only halfway through but "Remarkably Bright Creatures," on its face, is about a clever, captive octopus who apparently connects kin and solves mysterious deaths. On a deeper level, I'd say it's about grief, loneliness, healing, and interspecies friendship. |
I randomly read that book in college and it CHANGED me oh my god those women’s stories 💔 |
DP than who you asked, but yes, it's fantastic. Wally Lamb is one of my favorite authors and this lived up to my high expectations. I almost gave up on it on page 12 because as all his books are, it's devastating. And I thought it was too much trauma to handle right now, but I kept going and read it in less than 24 hours. |
Agree with you on the first but not the second at all. I found Atmosphere really flat and and not engaging at all like Taylor Jenkins Reid's books usually are. |
Google it! |
I’m reading The Best American Short Stories of 2024, edited by Lauren Groff. It was a gift and not normally something I’d buy. I only read short stories in the New Yorker and don’t really seek them out. But I’m really enjoying it! It’s a great mix of stories, including one by a favorite author, Jhumpa Lahiri. Some are funny, some sad, some bizarre or otherworldly, some emotional or charming, and some are classic, written in prose from another era.
I’ve also been introduced to great new authors (to me), like Madeline ffitch, Marie Helene-Bertino, Taisia Kitaiskaia, and Shastri Akella. |
I am listening to "The Wedding People" but I don't know if I will be able to finish it before my Libby library time runs out.
A couple weeks ago I decided to get in line on the Libby website for my library for this book, since many on here have mentioned that they enjoyed it. Libby said I was number 168 in line to be able to access the book and it would be a 14 week wait. Then, 4 days ago Libby said I could skip to the front of the line right away, but only if I keep the book for one week only. Of course I downloaded it, but I am pretty busy this week and I am almost resenting this 12 hour long book just because it feels like yet another obligation on my list of things that need to get done. So far I have listened to about 2 hours of it. I am at the part where they are waiting for room service to bring them some dental floss. The book is about a woman who checks into a hotel and finds that she is the only guest at the hotel who is not part of a wedding party. |
Stupid, OP asked what it's about. |
I’m reading Andy Weir’s book “The Martian” - it’s about an astronaut stranded on Mars as he tries to survive. It’s really interesting and I am enjoying it a lot! I don’t plan on watching the movie because I don’t want to ruin the image I have of the main character. |
It’s a great movie. |
I read BASS every year. It's fascinating to see how who is doing the editing effects what is chosen. |
I'm reading Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout. It's relationships and personalities in small town Maine done perfectly and beloved Olive Kitteridge is there. Olive Kitteridge might be my fave book, so yeah, it's the usual cast of characters from Strout, and I'm loving it. It's hard to put down. |
Finished The Doorman after learning about it here. Thought it was a good, relatively quick read. Just started Wild Dark Shore. Felt it started a bit slow but it seems to be ramping up about 80 pages in |
