The Loft is not a designer store

I shop at the Loft and I feel good in what I wear.

Take your judgment elsewhere, perhaps to a store that charges you 4x as much just so you can wear a label that nobody can actually see.

Oh, I’m sure she makes it obvious😂

what is "the Loft"?

I have a friend who graduated from Parsons and has been a designer for several brands and houses, including Ann Taylor, Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker, Dior (packaging for makeup), and a few of Nordstrom’s in-house brands. Anyone who is designing for mall stores like Banana and Loft are real designers. I don’t see any reason to scoff at Loft and other places like that.

Maybe they meant Designer in the way Frugal Fannie's used to designate designers. Also, I think there are more Lofts now than actual AT shops.

Please. I’m on a clearance rack at Target budget and I still know what designer clothing is.

Imagine being the kind of person who needs to start a post to say this about someone. Yikes.

A really crappy store related to Ann Taylor but lower quality and on the casual side instead of the workwear side. It sells super-basic stuff to middle-aged women with no sense of style. You find it in any mall with an Ann Taylor.

+1 it's not designer but to the person who said it it may very well be if she's only used to shopping at Old Navy or something. Who cares.

I have stuff from the Loft, and Betsy Johnson, and Target, and Old Navy. A friend of mine used to be a fashion designer in the 90s for a named house, and she used to give me stuff from there. Really, it's not a big deal. No one really knows if my shirt is from Loft or from that designer.

Thank you for reminding us to respect people who work for these businesses. But colloquially, "designer" clothes means something from more expensive brands, with a reputation for luxury, that Loft is not part of. These clothes are not necessarily better! But they have more cachet. The entire luxury market is based on perception. They spend billions in marketing and ties to celebrities.

I bought some stuff off the clearance rack at Target today, and I wouldn't be caught dead in Loft, lol.
