Did you ever watch 24? I feel like Homeland is very similar to that and I loved both. I never really got into The Americans, but maybe I should give it another try. |
I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like Peaky Blinders. It was a brilliant series with talented actors and a powerful story. |
The Americans might be my fave show ever. But I love seeing the 80s done well. |
The Americans is better |
The Americans was so good and I think had one of the best series finales. Enjoy- Hang on til the end, it’s worth it! |
We're watching through The American's for the first time and really enjoying it! We're on season 4, and I think it's my favorite season so far. I liked Homeland, but Carrie got annoying and I just didn't really connect with any of the characters. I think The Americans does character development really well, especially for Paige. |
OP here. I did like 24. I find them to be very different however. I will stay with Americans. I def like. I can't say enough about Condor. All you folks who enjoyed Americans should watch it. It's not as intense but 2nd season really is very very very good. I also really enjoyed Night Manager and Bodyguard. Travelers is scyfy but good. Battlestar Galactaca remake as well. |
The Americans is my favorite series ever too. I sometimes rewatch the series finale still. I wish there was reunion to show how things turned out after the Cold War ended. Or at least decent fan fic... |
I really cannot be bothered to read your very long lists. Watch both shows, decide for yourself. |
You and I have similar tastes. I liked Americans better, although I agree that the first season of Homeland was phenomenal. I think I made it through 4 seasons and just didn’t enjoy it anymore. |
My prob with Homeland was that it was a bit too over dramatic with Carrie's personal stuff? I'm watching a CIA/spy show and she us so nuts! She sleeps with every guy and she falls for Brody who she's spying on and trying to take down, I mean, WTF? It's just all over the place. Then after him in season 3, they manage to string 5 additional seasons. I have found other shows that were better being so many seasons without the lead's melodrama.
I think the acting was great and I suppose the first season was good - the 3rd was good for me in that at least Brody and her were over albeit tragically. But yeah, I never really got why people looooved it so much. I also didn't get why the last episode was though as the perfect ending because I felt like Carrie was just this psycho agent who would repeat her mistakes ad nauseum and really couldn't do much else. I also didn't like how the baby was written into the show - you really never figured out a resolution to that part of her life. I just couldn't make sense of what kind of show it wanted to be because it seemed like it was all over the place. I finished watching it all but I have loved other shows way more. I did enjoy Americans. To me, the difference was that I really cared about the characters - the complexity made sense in the context of the story. As characters, they made sense. There was a story and it ebbed and flowed unlike Homeland where it was one escapade after another and people just either didn't die, wouldn't die or were so messed up you were frustrated. |
