I hate those "tell me you don't know anything about something without telling me" cliches, but that would be fitting fitting in this case. |
I don’t care what kind of plane I’m on. I rarely even notice what it is. I will never stop flying. Being able to travel is worth the “risk”. If a plane crash is the way I go out so be it. We all have to go sometime.
I still out of DCA regularly. |
The reasonable pilots I've seen analyzing this say that a lot of the "hypotheses" are either completely dismissible based on the video/basic facts (plane will lock if flaps are wrong from the get go, and if you override it and try anyway it will honk and siren at you, so it's extremely unlikely). They say pilot error seems more likely and it takes a lot for a pilot to say that. |
I have no love for Boeing, but (a) air travel generally is incredibly safe, and (b) shall I share a nice long list of mechanical failures that happened on airbuses, just for balance?
Any plane can crash. But it's very unlikely. |
You can’t take off without flaps and slats deployed for take off on this plane. The warnings would be blaring in your face.
BUT, it’s possible to retract the flaps/slats when you meant to retract the landing gear. It would be even more tragic if this was caused by someone pulling the wrong lever. |
How much about airplane control surface operations did you know 48 hours ago? |
When the investigation is all done, I believe we will learn that this was sabotage. |
In my college grad school software safety class, Airbus flight control software was a case study in what not to do. No doubt it is better now than originally, but it was blamed for at least 2 Airbus crashes. |
While the Air India crash is tragic- I know I’m stating the obvious here, why are so many saying they will never fly Boeing jets? There are essentially two jumbo jet manufacturers- Boeing and Airbus. Also, before jumping all over Boeing, let’s wait for the investigations and some facts to come out. Finally, I’m not a Boring defender/fanboy, they deserved every bit of criticism and scorn for their bad/lazy engineering and design of the 737 Max aircraft. |
I am. Because, statistics. |
Air India was losing money for the Indian government so they sold it to a private company a couple of years ago. They tried to save money and make the airline profitable. What could go wrong? |
Air india |
That model of plane had never crashed before.
I recently booked it purposefully for that reason. What will be will be. |
