They carry modern, military-grade weapons. They wear modern body armor. They utilize modern vehicles and technology. They enjoy very generous pay and retirement packages, especially through injury retirement.

There are more than enough disincentives to dissuade civilians from trying to harm them. It’s taking it way too far to essentially value the life of a police officer over the lives of those they are supposed to be serving. But that’s exactly what happens …

I've talked to actual Capitol Police who were there that day that I know socially. They were in a tough spot and followed their training, which was to be warm and welcoming to the protesters. And the tapes, which you can watch for yourself, corroborate what they have said about this.
