Flowers are totally fine, a plant is fine too or even an amazon gift card, DO NOT give him cologne or anything personal like that. Terrible idea. |
This woman teacher doesn’t either. Look, it’s a nice idea but every year I leave for at least a week the second the school year is over. So do a lot of others. You should see how many flowers or plants are left in the faculty room for anyone to take at the end of year and also at the end of teacher appreciation week. |
All teachers want cash or gift cards. |
I probably only would if he was (openly) gay.
I am 100 percent serious here. |
All teachers have a local hang out spot they go to after the last day of school. Get a gift card from there. |
We really are scraping the bottom of the barrel for teachers these days, aren't we. |
Totally! I wouldn’t think twice about it. |
Sure. Am man. I love flowers in the house. |
This. It’s so gross we decide men should get money but women flowers. Thank women for doing a good job with cash, just like you would a man. The only jobs where people get flowers instead of cash are teaching, secretaries and maybe nursing. Hhhhmmmm. Sense a theme? I’m a lawyer - no one would ever give me flowers for doing my job well. |
One of the admins at my first real job had a small poster that said "Raises not Roses". Never forgot that. |
While I agree that I wouldn’t want flowers under any circumstance - I’m a woman - OP noted that the kids are giving the flowers. This activity is likely more for the kids and less about the teachers. |
Another common misconception by the PTA. Again, I appreciate your thought but I give these away to the people who live local or the young teachers. I don’t live in the town and I have my own family. I’m not going to the local restaurant for happy hours and I’m never going out to eat at the local restaurants, ever. We don’t have time to go out to eat for lunch during the year. When the day ends, I’m racing out to drive my kids to their activities or go to their school events. The only gift cards I ever use are Amazon or Target. |
Can you expand on this? Is it because straight men don’t like flowers? Is it emasculating for women to give flowers to men, therefore making it fine to give them to gay men but not hetero men? Or do all gay men love flowers so much they want to receive them as gifts? |
