Both of my kids went to a progressive, co-ed K-8. My DD really liked the idea of a SS school, so that's what she chose. My DS had no interest in SS education. |
Not PP, but I know a few families with DCs at Grace Church's upper school. Most of them are happy there---smart kids with bright futures, but not academic rock stars. I do know one DC who left after freshman year for a TT school---felt that the social vibe at GC was to look down on the more studious kids as "uncool." |
Grace and Friends are very similar. Friends as a whole is probably more academic, though I think Grace is rapidly moving that way - I've heard that just the difference between current freshmen and seniors is big. Grace definitely has its share of "slacker" kids but definitely plenty of very academic kids. The nice thing is that your kid won't be competing with every other kid in their class for Ivies, but there are plenty of kids who get in. So the exmissions don't look great top to bottom but there are plenty of kids at the top who do great. Unclear if the college placement office can keep up as Grace gets more academic and more kids want top schools. Friends has a bit more name recognition since Grace's HS is still not that old. Friends is smaller. We were looking at schools a few years ago so things might have changed but Friends felt more "woke" (we are Democrats so weren't offended by it but it was a lot). Lots of talk by the administration about their Center for DEI or whatever it is called, though the actual students seemed to roll their eyes at it. Grace Head of School is a true superstar. I know Friends' HOS is retiring - not sure where that stands? |
