I don’t hate that dress! Thank you! |
OP, circle back and let us know what you wore!
I am watching the French Open (made me think of this thread) and am struck by how many spectators are in jeans. (I realize that Wimbledon is last to hang onto traditional tennis dress rules, but even those have slipped!) |
NP who is also watching French Open, saw this thread when you replied, looked through and wants to play along! I'm going to the Cincinnati Open this year and planning my outfits will not be nearly this fun! |
Yeah I used to find the Wimbledon rules/culture fusty and old fashioned but now I kind of love it because everyone else has gotten so rowdy and casual. I found myself getting really annoyed with the Roland-Garros crowds this year. I'm now leaning towards trying to go to Wimbledon instead of RG next year when usually my preference is the opposite. |
Turquoise pumps with silver latchets. A cyan dress with a slit to the hips revealing lavender underpants with each stride. An orange sash around the waist, and cleavage revealing a brassiere with purple turtles.
Men with romance-engorged eyes will hop around your feet like grasshoppers. A Miami Dolphins fan will be smitten, taking you to the tip of Florida to declare his undying love. Yes, Miami Dolphins fans attend Wimbledon, some are even members of the Royal Family. |
OP here taking careful notes and scrapping the plans I still haven’t made (the weather could be anything!). Just 2 weeks to find a purple turtle bra! |
I just attended Roland Garros and wore an older version of this dress:
https://us.boden.com/products/trim-double-cloth-dress-navy I bought new tennis shoes to wear with the dress and was so glad I did - most women had tennis shoes on and there was a significant amount of walking because they close the street down to taxis. To the commenter who saw a lot of jeans at the French Open, that was not my experience! I don’t recall seeing anyone in jeans. Most were wearing some kind of comfortable summer dress or white pants with a nice top. Many had a smart looking blazer or a trench coat because it was raining. Lots of classic colors and prints. Think Polo in the US. |
This one is perfect for Wimbledon!

I would actually worry that it's so perfect that other women there might be wearing it. I might grab the green/white stripe though -- it would look great in photos there. |
OP here, wearing a print that matches the occasion gives me 1st grade teacher vibes, but it would be cute for a summer party elsewhere. I don’t wear belted dresses because I’m busty and short-waisted but hopefully someone who would look cute in it buys it for the rest of us! |
Sneakers were my plan. I have a fresh pair of simple ones. I’m glad they won’t be out of place. |
Do you wear dress pants? What about a pair of tan pants with a white blouse and blazer (if cool or over the arm if warm)? Don white sneakers and a raffia purse or tote with a complementary hat. |
Alcaraz’s mother looked great at RG - she is naturally beautiful, but I meant her outfit. I can’t find an image to post, but it looked like blue/teal pants and a classic white tshirt, but at some point pulled on a matching teal fitted blazer. I’d love to see the shoes and bag she teamed with the outfit |
