Exactly. It is marketing manipulation but all of the clubs are doing it. First tier MLS Next is Alexandria, Achilles, SYC, DCU, Armour and Bethesda in this area. I apologize if I left someone out going off the top of my head or if someone was added that I missed. It is a very SELECT group of local athletes. It is positive for this 2nd tier to form as we have enough local talent to play each other without a lot of travel. VA needs to play more against MD before you start needing to go NJ, DE or PA. Less travel = more time to actually develop into a MLS Next 1st tier product. 95% of the local kids do not need to travel outside of DC, MD or VA to find talent equivalent enough to challenge them. Under this new system, some kids will develop into 1st tier players and move to 1st tier clubs. Over time, I suspect some clubs will have excellent production records and eventually replace some of the current 1st tier clubs who have subpar production records for player development.

To be fair, the new MLSN2 clubs have received almost 0 info on how to market the league or what to even call the new league. I don’t know if MLSN just doesn’t have the capacity but the info to these new clubs is minimal at best. This came straight from club director at a new MLSN2 club.

There are two 2013B STJ teams are currently playing in the 6th and 8th division of NCSL respectively. How are they going to compete in that league against large clubs second teams when they used to playing Arlington’s 6th team? The second tier of MLS next 2 will be a lot more competitive than the lower divisions of NCSL.

You're making an assumption that they will have the same roster and we're unable to recruit better players.

It makes sense that kids who aren’t good enough to make MLSNext or ECNL, who maybe want more than ECNL RL or cannot make a good RL team, would be interested in STJ. I’m sure many kids on their current 2013 teams are not making their MLSNext 2 team.

yes the tsjfc is top 10 in the United States in MLS 2 with all their age groups being successful in all their age groups they might move to MLS next 1

Does an entire club qualify or is a team by team basis in terms of who makes MLSN1? A coach, who I have zero respect for, once told me that a club qualifies (ie once they meet the criteria), then it becomes a team level qualification with a qualified club. I am inclined not to believe him, but figured I would ask here.

I believe a club can qualify to field all the age groups from the get go. But some are allow to field only a few teams initially and maybe earn the rest of the pathway eventually. So it seems as if the coach u talked to is right?
