Ruby Franke/mormon mom-vlog doc

I watched this. This is not an indictment of Mormonism or even close to how Mormons are. Their former neighbors and friends are in the show and are nothing like them.

Ruby Franke's torture of her children was truly deranged! To even think of the weird stuff she did--she was like a medieval torturer or Claus Barbie, seriously.

Hildebrand wanted power over others and her methods and behavior toward men just showed that she hated men. She wanted to punish men for existing and probably hated the idea of marriage but couldn't admit it on her milieu. A complete hypocrite. They are scary, scary people.

I noticed they showed Ruby often crying in her vlog. She was a person in extremis. She was a mess.

The husband is delusional, shallow and likes drama. He wants her back. He's a professor, I think? What does he teach? He didn't know what "emaciated" meant. He seemed really dumb and easily manipulated.

I think it’s some sort of engineering? But yeah he really defines pathetic. He still loves her, wants her back, I sense he’d throw those kids under a (literal) bus if that’s what Ruby told him it would take.

I wonder what his childhood was like, he seems to be desperate for a mommy.

He definitely would! He's just waiting for her to give him the word. Though it did say he filed for divorce but I still think he would go back to her.

Anonymous wrote:It is all very shocking. Shari Franke (her daughter)'s book gives a lot more insight than the documentary though. The documentary makes it seem like she only turned abusive when Jodi came into the picture, but her daughter makes it clear she was abusive their whole childhood.

After watching, Shari is the only one with any sense.

Agree. The husband and son are dolts. Who has the younger kids now? (I haven’t finished the show yet.)

Ruby was psycho from the start! Did anyone see the insane details on that boyfriend/husband screening poster she made. The “qualifications” were bizarrely specific, especially as it related to the “correct” observance of their religion. And the fact that the husband (then prospective boyfriend) was not turned off but in fact motivated by seeing this poster!!

They don’t say. They also don’t mention any other family. Maybe they weren’t willing to participate in the show.

Not only was he motivated, he pretended to be the things he wasn’t to get more checks off the list.

Just binged the series. That whole happy valley was messed up!

Agree with the pp, Kevin is extraordinarily weak. And he still loves her! To be so brainwashed that you’d completely turn your back on your kids.

I’m shocked Chad was so sucked into it all. He seems so ‘normal’ on the surface.

Shari, bless her heart (sincerely) somehow appears to remained normal the whole time.

I hope the younger kids have the support they will need to recover from the horror of their childhood.

There is a Mormon family who lives down the street; I have not met them and I understand the kids go to a private school. Can’t say I know much about Mormons in .general.

Will chuck out the Hulu documentary. Thanks!

Just to be clear, this is a documentary about a mom blogger who abused her children in a horrific way.

Dp, and completely agree. But you’ve got to admit it gives a glimpse into the unique lds culture in Utah. Some of my closest friends are LDS and even they raised an eyebrow at the ridiculously high standards of perfection in Utah LDS. The cultish following of Jodi as the men and women sought guidance towards perfection was clearly tied to the LDS beliefs.

From business insider “ As of a June 2024 filing in Kevin Franke's lawsuit against Hildebrandt, viewed by BI, all four kids were residing in separate homes while in the state's custody.”

Oh yes, I agree, but the PP was acting giddy about a documentary to learn about Mormons and this is not it!

Completely agree. The LDS families I know have been wonderful friends and supportive colleagues. This was a whole different level.

I wonder this too. I’d suspect Chad is because he seems more impressionable. Shari, maybe not.

The diary is so chilling. Honestly it’s clear that Ruby is on the verge of psychosis by the end ( in addition to starting out as a stone cold b1+ch) whereas Jodi was just trying to get in Rubys pants.
