If kids came with 2% interest rate 30 year mortgages you could have 10.

Don't drink the kool aid. Only have as many kids as you can personally care for, emotionally and financially. It's ok if the number is none or one.

So procreation is only a right of the wealthy? I would push hard against that world view. It is unethical.

Wealthy? No. But if you can’t afford childcare, and the other parent doesn’t have the earning power to support the whole family so one parent can stay home? Yes. This is not a surprise.

They probably should've researched daycare costs before having children.

Um...where have you been the last few decades. People are having fewer kids, and partly because it costs a fortune.

Is that an ideal situation?

It doesn’t have to be “an ideal situation.” Welcome to reality.

We are eliminating flexible work policies, remote work policies, we are providing no subsidies, this country should be ashamed of itself for the level of wealth it has and subsequent help it provides working families. Instead we are making sure that parents are spending 2-3 hours/day on commute so they are totally stressed out. For the ones who will say "but I did it so why can't you", I say f*** you!

Great job America!

The childcare situation in many communities has completely changed since many of us got pregnant.

Is DC considering 0-3 care or grants for such care?

Parenthood shouldn't just be for the ultra wealthy, but in DC that's what will happen if DC doesn't normalize childcare costs.

you don't understand. MAGA wants women to quit their jobs and be a sahm so that men don't have to compete with women in the workplace, and women have to go back on relying on men for their financial security.

This is not a mature response. This is basically equivalent to F the poors.

I am a DC landlord who sees hundreds of housing voucher applications. DC is not in danger of running out of kids. Non-wealthy DC citizens are not choosing not to procreate.
