Which HS has the best crew program?

Jackson Reed (formerly Wilson) was V8 mens’s national champion (which includes private schools) in 2023. Not so great last year.

Girls V8 was 3rd at the Stotesbury Cup
Last year.

Of course, none of this helps a VA person unless they are going to move.

I believe the DC and Md schools no longer compete at NOVAs. Not for the past 10 years at least. They are in a different league.

Yorktown is pretty good. My daughter's boat won states and made the finals at SRAA last year. They were freshmen though and not varsity.

SO the contenders in NOVA for boys 8 teams are shaping up to be

Langley
Jackson Reed (formerly Wilson)
Wakefield
McLean.

Anyone missing?

Any talent shown by the Woodson, McLean, or tj crew teams? Does Justice have a crew team?

You are leaving off West Springfield who won last year. Including Jackson Reed that isn’t a Virginia school. You are putting McLean in both the contenders and question categories.

I don’t think the DC and Md teams compete for the states at NOVAs aka the VASRA Championship races. The league broke up a decade ago or so. OP asked about NOVA publics, so not BCC, Wilson, Whitman, etc.

Wish there’s a DMV cup with too two teams of each to compete. On the Potomac maybe.

Justice has had a crew team since the 1960s (as JEB Stuart). I don’t think they’ve raced a varsity 8 boat in many years, but I could be mistaken. They race other boats though.

W-L and Yorktown every few years have strong showings for the boys varsity 8 boats. But Wakefield has taken the spotlight post pandemic.

Why did you say of "of NOVA public's of course?"

There are many excellent crew teams in Maryland, notably the Whitman crew team.

The MD schools don’t matter because they compete in some other league; not the league here.

The best FCPS girls program is probably Woodson.

How is that possible? According to Langley crew: https://www.langleycrew.com/

2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024 State Champions

Langley crew has captured state championships every year since 2012

Are those Langley championships for the varsity 8 boats?

According to the Wakefield Crew Boosters website “Wakefield has built a legacy of success. In 2024, the girls first varsity 8 won the state championships for the 4th year in a row,”

No, Langley isn’t fielding Varsity 8 boats. The best boys programs in recent years among NoVa publics have been McLean, West Springfield, and Wakefield.

Now get your unathletic kid on one of these teams so he can get that coveted ivy hook

Deerfield Academy has the fastest HS boats in the country.

And they just announced ah-mazing financial aid for middle class families. Much more robust than local privates.

The trick is getting in.

He is quite athletic, thanks. Has the right body type too.

But yes, the Ivy hook is indeed the goal here, thanks.
