This sort of thing happens in environments where there is one party control, either Democratic or Republican. When this happens, normal scrutiny of candidates stop and gets subsumed by identity (gay or hunter) and relationships (“friend”) as mechanisms through which people rise in politics. Similar to how people rise through single party states like China of the old CCCP. The lack of competition for governance always leads to inferior, unqualified and morally corrupted people gaining power.

I don't buy this. If this guy were an IT worker, he would have been in the same awful conduct.

The reactions to his behavior are different than those reaction when a conservative commits this kind of alleged crime. Different but the same in terms of condemnation. If I were a gay man trying to live a meaningful life (i.e. the majority of gay people) I would be incensed at the behavior,because it fuels the bigots. Likewise, conservative Christians feel the same sense of betrayal when a Christian does this kind of thing,

What if he were simply just counseling these young persons about their possible interest in a gender transition? It would make sense for him to have underwear in his office so he could help illustrate and teach the practice of tucking. We should all withhold judgment until all the facts are in. He has a presumption of innocence.
