Mouse infestation in Wasserman Building, Rockville Hebrew House

Gross but again, not to be unexpected in that price range of assisted living.

What a passive-aggressive judgmental comment. No, thank you. Mice are a problem. Period. I own an expensive home, and I have mice. It has nothing to do with the money I'm spending on my living and everything to do with the environment we live in. How it is managed is an indication of the management of a facility.

This was true 20 years ago when my MIL was there after a joint replacement.

It is one of the few facilities in Montgomery County that has gotten five stars for years. Wow.

The stars don’t mean much.

The reality is that mice seem to be everywhere these days. We've caught a few in our basement recently, after not having them for 20 years. I saw one in a restaurant recently. The issue here seems to be what the HH does about it, not so much that they have them.

They should have resident cats the way Sunrise does.

My dad would love to see a cat come into his room at the HH.

You need to figure out how they are getting in and patch the holes or replace the garage door or tubing. Check pipes on AC, pipes and dryer and toilet exhaust. Get rid of tree branches over hanging your house and house ivy.

I’m so sorry to read this. My mom was there for two days in April and there were multiple mice when we were there. We complained and submitted a report as well.
Just like you said, no one on the staff seemed surprised ir flustered.

If they are so big and fat, are you sure they are not rats?

The Obama's stayed in Buckingham Palace as guests of Queen Elizabeth and had mice run through their bedroom.

The Royal Family has employed full time ratcatchers for 100's of years at their palaces.

Yeah, my mom stayed there years ago and it was absolutely horrible. I don’t get why they have five stars.

I’m glad someone else has mentioned this! Avoid using this place.

It’s still going on now. The nursing staff and CNA staff are totally checked out and not even phased by the mice. Also the temperatures in this place are very high, it’s suffocating in there. It can’t be a healthy environment for elderly people. It smells strong like poop in the hallway. Really bad experience getting off the elevator to an overly warm room filled with strong poop smell. I retched. If I hadn’t been there to visit someone I care about, I would have left right away. We are trying to get our family member transferred to another facility right away. The conditions here are not good.

While there, our family saw a mouse and got very upset- there shouldn’t be mice in elderly people’s rooms! And the staff acted like we were the problem for being upset. I feel bad for anyone who stays there. I heard from a manager after submitting a complaint. They’ve employed some kind of dog service to supposedly help with the rodent problem. Cats would be more effective.

Like a previous poster, I called the Montgomery County Health Department and learned the health department has been there multiple times in 2024.

The problem still isn’t fixed

Avoid this place.

Have you spoken to management and are they working with pest control?

It’s cold and mice get it.
