What LACs have less stressful

My DD is at Swarthmore. It is not mellow.

It's all perspective. I think it's pretty mellow if you're not a grade grubber.

The student body skews serious and academic, and many of them eventually go to grad school. It's not a very social place, and even if you aren't a "grade grubber" you will find yourself surrounded by classmates who adhere to the grind.

Because they are all competing for the same seats in graduate programs. Drop lower or find a school that doesn't focus on creating academics and you'll find more mellow students

I attend. Yes, many people go to grad school, but many people who are good matches for grad school aren't anxiety-ridden type A students, but very casual, calm hard working types. Choosing to grind through college is....a choice. It's not something Swarthmore forces upon you. The whole grind culture is very overblown.

Most students come in not even having a good grasp on their major, let alone knowing that they're competing for graduate program seats.

I'm glad that your experience is better. I don't think OP wants her child at Swat if she wants advice about less stressful schools. That's not one of them in my opinion (and I'm sure in that of many others).

Long thread on a similar question earlier this year with lots of suggestions.

It is the opposite of mellow , and the kids seem to take a pride in being overextended .

Bucknell is what you're looking for. It's far less of an academic grind than Williams or Amherst but has just as strong of a pipeline to high paying jobs on The Street.

Bates? Skidmore? Mt Holyoke? Agree with Conn.

And then they figure it out and the school becomes a grind

That thread is pretty poor, naming schools like Pomona, which isn't cut throat, but is a very stressful school to get an education.

Sorry, but no on spending four years with dumb drunk bros.

I like the F&M and Muhlenberg suggestions, but most of these are way off base.

OP, I can't tell what you're aiming for, or how strong your student is. Would your child want a sweet little school in Virginia -- like a Roanoke or a Lynchburg? Or is Bucknell a good suggestion since it's at least less cutthroat than an Ivy?
