Was it announced that this is Serino’s placement for 24-25? |
She was appointed as Bannockburn's permanent principal effective July 1. |
Wow. This thread was the first thing that popped up when I Googled Alison Serino (I couldn't remember which school she was moving to). I have to say that the tone of the original post is not a great representation of "DC Urban Moms" (site or people).
In this case, however, Alison Serino was quite possibly the kindest, most supportive boss I've ever had. She was warm and welcoming, and her staff felt that way on a regular basis. This thread was from June, so I suspect by now the OP has had an opportunity to experience Ms. Serino's passion and drive for a thriving, cohesive school community and may perhaps walk back some of the more negative or paranoid statements made. |
Ms. Serino is awesome. But she works for a criminal organization. She supports students and staff in a positive way for an organization that only looks at students and staff as a way to line their pockets. Luckily, she's a female and won't have to face the type of brutality that her male counterparts face. |
Looks like someone missed their meds today. ![]() |
Looks like someone is bullying someone due to their mental illness. ![]() |
Sure, Jan. |
So how is it going? |

As a parent at BES I've been very let down with how this year has gone with the new leadership. Serino seems out of touch with what matters to us, which is keeping our kids safe. My child has been bullied repeatedly this year, and there has been no communication between the administration and my family. I also don't get the best feedback from other parents that have had the same issue. Now I hear that some teachers are leaving that I was looking forward to having finally! |
I would kindly and with caution warn you: You truly no idea how good you have it. Of the six MCPS principals I've experienced (at Somerset, Chevy Chase, Westland, and BCC) Serino is by far the best. Her departure from Westland was a HUGE loss. Unkindness, bullying, and everything in between are huge problems EVERYWHERE right now. My true advice for you is that if you are concerned about this issue you should set up a meeting with her and also volunteer to help make things better--the schools are truly lacking partners in parents right now and if you offer to be part of the solution I can say from experience that you will find a willing partner in Serino. |
Is this opinion from a staff member or a parent? How have you worked with 6 principals? As a parent, the relationship is much different than if you are working with someone. |
As a parent. Somerset has been through 3 principals in past 4 years. |
