This is the most money I have ever had!

How much equity do you have and if you have children, how much in their 529s?

Congrats op! Yay you.

On roths, a coworker is retiring and she told me she wished she did roths instead of regular because taxes are now higher than when she was contributing

Do with that info what you will

I'm 54- mine has matching to 6% + a 4% base contribution, and I always maxed out. At 50 the contribution limit raises, too. My account has pretty much doubled over the last 5 years.

Congrats, OP! I feel you. I was in a very similar situation at your age (maybe with less?). Once I did start saving aggressively, the pot grew quickly. Obviously not compared to some people on this forum but I didn't have family gifts, trusts, and all those benefits. I couldn't really start saving until student loans were paid, we saved for down payment, finished daycare payments, and finally caught up to zero. Now that you've got your retirement growing, it'll only get bigger!

Oh, I love the phrase “catching up to zero.” Never heard it before but it’s so true. For those of us that spend our 20s and 30s catching up to zero, late 30s/40s really is when you make up for lost time.

You’re doing great, OP! Congrats and keep up the good work!
