DC at HYPSM only submitted 5s. |
DD got all 5s, WL/rejected by all top 20 |
Schools have different score submission guidelines, so first figure out what they are for where s/he's applying. Some schools require all scores, some you can sort of pick and choose. I suppose it might look a little odd if someone took ten APs and then submitted two scores, though.
Scores of 4/5 show they can work at a higher level -- and don't let people make you think a 4 isn't good or they should be ashamed to submit it. |

I’m glad to hear 4s are well received. My DC’s AP teachers are wonderful but neither of them believe in the system or teach to the test |
Yes. 4s and 5s on college apps are good. 4s will sometimes not get you credit in certain subjects at some of the selective schools. I know only a '5' in AP Bio gives my kid 8 credits and exempts them from having to take a science. Calc was another subject that required a '5' for credits. State schools are often less stringent about that. |
DC submitted a mix of 4s and 5s. Accepted at an HYPS school. |
My word, that has got to be discouraging. I hope she is taking it OK and has a great option outside of t20 to attend. |

Mine did not submit at all because did not pass or scored a 3. Got into T10 and top LACs. |
How? |
Mine submitted a 4 on the Calc AB exam, plus 5s on 5-6 others and got in ED at a T10. I think they held back a 3 from a freshman/pandemic year class. I don't think I would generally hold back 4s, except for maybe something like English where lots of kids dont' bother with the exam. If you don't submit on something like AP Calc or AP Bio, I think they will know you likely took the exam, and will assume it's lower than a 4. |
