Livid? No? Slightly annoyed, but still keeping your yap shut because you know both of you dropped the ball, and this vacation, even in your "lesser" house, is one that other people would love to take but never be able to? Yes. |
There is no applause for 'taking on the job'.
It's literally 11 clicks and a credit card. It's more effort packing a lunch for work. But yeah, spending vacation money on something you werent consulted on is BS. but I guess you can now pick a vacation of your own and just run with it. |
Livid is a bit much unless they ignored one of your dealbreakers. |
uh, they always do OBX? So how is this bad |
Not even that - three lots. Ocean front, across the street from that, and then they're in the house behind that one. Like half a block, tops. And it wouldn't be a dump if you didn't travel with dogs. The reason you only had dumps left is dogs make rentals dumpy. |
Agree. The OP is lucky to still be married tbh if they are "livid" that their vacation was finally booked. |
My mom owns an oceanfront OBX rental that permits dogs. It was booked fully in January, April to Thanksgiving.
This was likely the best option remaining. All the good ones are long gone. |
I would be mad, yes. Livid maybe not.
And I would feel free to stay home or take my vacay solo while spouse took kids down to beach house I didn't get a say in. |
I personally wouldn't book something nonrefundable without running it by my spouse. Was your spouse unable to reach you quickly? |
She’s a psycho |
Men do not get livid. Obviously OP is a woman |
No. |
New poster. The bold is what's BS here. Try finding a rental that meets the OP's family's very specific requirements in just "11 clicks" when it's MAY already. The spouse likely spent a lot more frantic energy booking the rental than you, or OP, thinks. "Livid" is ridiculous since OP, you could have done the booking yourself. I really do understand being irked, though not livid, that spouse couldn't just text or phone you or say from the next room or whatever: I've got a potential rental here and it's going to go fast, here are the details, we have to decide right now. But I suspect that you'd have said no based on your revulsion for being three whole blocks from the water. I don't know what else makes the rental a "dump" to you, but you need to be more objective and realize that (1) a specific and apparently inflexible week, and (2) dog-friendly being a requirement, are two things that mean you have to either book early as usual, or book late and sacrifice location and whatever non-dump elegance you prefer. You can let this stew and build up resentment in you, or you can be a bigger person and tell spouse, "I wish you had consulted me about a non-refundable expenditure and we shouldn't be in this position again. But I also get that we both dropped the ball on booking earlier and have to take what's out there." If you have any grace you could add some thanks for at least finding a place at all, because honestly, with your family's must-haves, you're very lucky there was a place ONLY three blocks from the water. |
I’d be glad he dealt with it and we aren’t going to miss out on that particular vacation. |
They wanted beach time and made the move, presumably from what little was left available. If you don’t like it, save your PTO and don’t go. Separate vacations might help your mood and you can pick something that suits your style better. |
