OMG, my daughter has a couple of friends who go there, and that stereotype could NOT be more wrong. Her friends are incredibly down to earth, well-rounded kids. Athlete and musicians, very bright and very social.

The professors really really care at Dickinson. The small class sizes foster strong learning and easier developed friendships. The professors are top notch and know how to teach. The dining services is over the top amazing with so much high end menu items—including exotic food items from time to time. The chef and food has even won awards over the years. The campus grounds are kept immaculate. It’s special.

Yes. You’d hate it. Don’t bother, you don’t want to be there and we don’t want you there.

How ironic! When I went there (class of 97) it was just a bunch of trusties screwing around till they inherited their daddy’s money.

They give good merit.

So how’s your inheritance coming along?

Have you toured this spring? The only visible, enormous poster on campus for the upcoming presidential election is for the candidate who is NOT in office right now.

this turned off a friend of mine's child who really thought she would like it there.

She decided on an art school in Philly instead.

Regarding the dining options, they are going to be renovating the dining hall and adding more options.

So she decided to be unemployable because she couldn't handle a Trump poster, got it.

They are test optional, not blind. They’ve been TO for a long time IIRC

When my child considered it (22 high school grad) they were test blind. Now test optional again. The test blind was a turn off bc he had really high SATs and would only consider if he’d gotten a lot of merit. He wound up not applying (though that wasn’t why).

My DC went there and had a good experience. Walked on to a sports team freshman year and did that for 2 years but eventually found it too time consuming.

We went back to Carlisle this fall for the first time in 5-6 years and it has gotten much nicer - more restaurants, shops, etc. The Dickinson Farm even has a shop in town that students can use their dining dollars at.

In the 90s there was a real “town and gown” divide and even animosity between people who lived in Carlisle and students at the school. Has that improved?

Yes, good approach. I always tell my kids that when you encounter a poster advertising the candidate that the other 50% of the country supports for the next election, it’s best to run and hide in the most secluded area possible so that you can pretend that you are solidly in the majority and everyone thinks and votes exactly as you do. How very……liberal-minded?

She’s from the Philly burbs, so the other school is closer to home. She had been planning to major in the performing art wherever she went.

Someone asked in this thread about whether Dickinson was “woke” so don’t for one second think that people aren’t considering the political leaning of the school and surrounding area when making a decision.
