OP please ignore this poster. This was NOT a “borderline situation”. Your son could have been seriously injured or worse. Not to mention your dog was nearly killed. You need to report this asap. |
You need to report it. That can easily happen again. Dogs play that looks aggressive and its not but that was no play and a full blown attack |
This was not an accident. Those dogs are aggressive and attacked OP dog. If those dogs hurt another dog and could hurt a person they may need to be put asleep. |
Report this immediately. And figure out what you need to put into the ground on your side of the fence to prevent them from digging under. |
Also, keep a heavy bat by the front door and if you need to use it, don’t hesitate. |
Well it’s not an alligator attack. It’s not a shark attack. It was the dogs attacking. Report the dogs. |
+1 to everything said here I also would not let your kid walk your dog anymore. |
Of course the neighbor should pay for your vet bills, he is responsible for containing his dogs. Yes, you should call animal control. You should also consider the possibility that there will be a series of escalating incidents with these dogs before anything is done. Every instance of failure to contain those dogs needs to be reported. Take a time/date stamped picture every time they are loose and provide it with the reports. If you have any security camera footage of the attack on your dog, provide it to animal control. If it is the first report, don't expect a lot of action, but, they should at least be able to verify vaccination records for you. The neighbor is apparently in denial about his animals. |
Oh OP - yes, that was an attack. And I don't blame you one bit for being scared and worried. And to the PP - any dog owner would have done the same as OP. No one can see their dog being attacked and not try to save them. I've done the same for mine. OP, you are being exceptionally calm and gracious given what happened. I can't believe your neighbor is trying to make out as if this wasn't a big deal. |
I disagree. I am huge animal lover but op needs to report this attack. It is not a borderline situation at all. Both dog and kid could have been killed. Neighbor doesn't want to pay because he doesn't want to appear at fault. But he is. Report to animal control and let them decide what to do. I would not feel safe living next to this neighbor. Sorry you are going through this! |
Such a strange post. Of course your dog was attacked. How have you rationalized it in your mind that it’s not? Who are you protecting? Your child could’ve been seriously injured and your dog dead. |
Absolutely this should be reported to animal control. Having animals unleashed off your property is a violation of the county ordinance most likely. You need to report this because it is unlikely to be the last incident and you need a record for when the county needs to collect these animals, which is basically inevitable.
The neighbor should also pay the vet bill and engage his homeowners insurance if he doesn’t have the funds. Don’t let this slide. A dog that attacks another dog is not necessarily going to attack people but it’s not a great sign. Our dog had an altercation with a neighbor’s dog who was unleashed and in our yard and our neighbor was found at fault by the county and the insurance company. |
I’m confused as to why you don’t think this was an attack! You posted 1000 irrelevant facts, it doesn’t matter if they are from Iraq or rescues. Report it to animal control asap. |
I am a lifelong dog owner (many decades). I love dogs.
OP: Your neighbor's dogs are dangerous. Very dangerous. (I wish that they were guarding our Southern border--but that is another issue.) You need to report this vicious attack to animal control. Do NOT allow your child or your dogs anywhere near these vicious warzone trained dogs. If you do, then you may be charged with child abuse & with animal cruelty since you are aware of the constant danger & vicious propensity of your neighbor's dogs. Your neighbor is an irresponsible dog owner as he does not properly 7 adequately restrain his aggressive dogs. |
This. Perhaps he can be required to muzzle the dogs when outside. And creating a record is important. |
