I’m not paying $40k for that.

I’m so curious what level you’re hoping for. I hope you report back!

Stay tuned. Makes no sense that in public school you are placed in the next sequential math course but that private schools can just make you repeat one or two courses you have already taken. I think it’s sheer laziness - not trying to individually assess where people are but instead using a one size fits all approach. As parents we have more power than you think. Just walk.

That’s literally the opposite of not individually assessing? Just passing a kid on to the next level if they haven’t mastered all the material and aren’t prepared would be the one size fits all approach. Schools (private and public) have a wide range of rigor and a variety of approaches to MS math. Just because your kid already took geometry in 8th doesn’t mean they are ready for Algevra 2. Or if they are, should they go into honors or regular? So of course private schools assess incoming students to determine what course to place them in. *Individually assess* them, in fact.

Ok, then just take the Algebra I placement like a chump.

I’m not saying you can’t disagree with their assessment or walk away from the school if you don’t like it, but the argument that they don’t individually assess students is clearly incorrect when you are waiting on the results of your child’s individual assessment.

I think private school may not work out for your family. Just a guess.

If your daughter is crushing Algebra I (having previously taken Algebra I) they will move her up during the year. They aren't that rigid.

Well, it's worked for our other 3 kids, so . . .

Love this! (Signed parent of rising 8th grader that thinks 4” Lululemon shorts are grossly long).

Wow. Please don’t let her bring those morals to Visi.

When does Visi send out results?

For anyone who searches for this info next year: It was apparently 3 sections. DD works hard to get A's in her parochial math class, and has not taken Geometry yet. She took 2 of the 3 test sections yesterday and said it was 'easy.' The third section is apparently for students who have already learned geometry. DD peeked at section 3 and said she had no idea. Based on this info I'm assuming that students who:
Struggle with section 1: are advised to take math prep over the summer. Pass section 1: get placed in algebra 1 without needing summer prep.
Pass section 1 & 2: get placed into accel algebra/geometry.
Ace section 1&2: get placed into honors geometry
Ace section 1-3: get placed into algebra 2. This is only my guess.
