Kids whose parents need to engineer them into a math class shouldn't be in that math class. Your kid will be placed where they're supposed to be placed and their schedule will be what's best for them. You're out of your lane if you are anxious about it. |
This didn't work out for my freshman and its a tough pill to swallow. I also do not like that there are essentially no other ways to get ahead so do be sure you and your child are aware going in. |
SJC seems to have a lot going for it, but this placement scheme is insane for the modern college admissions landscape. |
It’s not about “engineering them.” It’s about playing the long game and understanding how one selection drives or limits others. Fortunately, we each get to manage our own mental health. |

For those who take Algebra 2 as a freshman, what does the sequence look like
Sophomore. Pre-calc Junior Calculus Senior???? |
It depends on what your school offers. Multi-variable Calc, Linear Algebra, and AP Statistics are common options. |
Pp again, some students also take AP Calc AB in 11th and BC in 12th. It’s not really set up to be a sequence that way, and there will be repetition/overlap, but it will help really cement the concepts. |
My daughter placed in Algebra 2 as a Freshman. Most kids take Calc AB Junior year then Calc BC senior year. Maybe some do AP Stats senior year. A very small percentage take MV or whatever comes after Calc BC. |

Is there a straight Geometry option or just the algebra1/geometry honors course? |
Just the Algebra 1/Geo honors. Straight Geo non honors sophomore year if you don’t get into the summer class. |
