NYC

NYC Privates often get someone more senior. Same with DC, Richmond, Chicago, Boston, etc.

Are any college fairs w/ T20 schools open to the public? Our county (public school) has a few, but it seems like very few T20 attend.

Some are invite only. Either from high school or a mailer. But if you’re interested - call the college and get an invite

How do you find out about them? Is there a global list?

not that I know of

I think it is a mix ... we were at a college fair recently in DC, at a private school, and there was a mix of alumni, AO staff and at least one AD. (The latter at a school DD is likely to apply to, although who knows what kind of impression DD made ...)

Who usually represents a college when they come to school over a lunch hour? Still the regional AO? My DC’s school has visitors from colleges at least 2x week during busy season. Does the regional AO attend all these?

For the college fair or any other event .. how desirable is the area? I imagine it's like any other business trip for an office. Some place/city people want to go, the boss gets to if they want. Some people will have very individual reasons for wanting to go -- a connection or friends.

It depends. Most colleges don't have regionals (people living in the area) and have AOs who travel to the area for a while to do the visits.

What is an AD?

I did this as part of the Young Alumni of X CITY club. We took notes of names (there was a scanner), but that was it. We weren't sizing anyone up

This really depends on the school and the budget they have for travel/fairs.

The more resources a school has the more likely you are to get a staff affiliate.

I listen to enough podcasts to know that that is the dean of admissions. The head of the whole thing at Duke.

Is this normal? I thought the people the send on the road where a step up from tour guides but many steps down from Dean of Admissions

Yes, Guttentag still travels: DC, NYC.
