Not my kid's year. RMIB 1580 SAT, 4.92 wgpa, 4.0 unwgpa CS major. Maybe that's why. Did get merit aid.

CS major? That's nuts. I feel like college admissions is a lottery.

Yea, unfortunately this year they cut the CS major admits by half, though they increased direct admits by 150.

There are so many high performing kids around here, and UMD has stated that they are not the "university of montgomery county", so they aren't going to accept every high stats student from MCPS. So, getting into UMD for CS is an "honor" in and of itself. The admit rate for CS majors must now be like 10%.

These kids were admited for CS and got merit but not in honors so never in running for BK

Don't need BK if you already have the skills to get a programming job.

This is my kid! Was offered a spot in a LLC and a tiny bit of merit aid. His stats exactly- well, even higher with the GpA weighted. Research internship, published paper. No honors college.

dang.. it's no wonder Forbes now considers UMD to be part of the "public ivy" set.
