SYC MLSN tryouts invite only tonight, or they still open to the public? Can't tell from IG. Just arrived from overseas, missed ID's but my child can play! |
Correct. That was weird. They did invite me to followup with the particular coach. |
MSLN ID session was a few weeks ago and their teams are pretty much set. Tryouts right now are for second, third, fourth teams. If you think your child has the potential to be on the MLSN team, I would reach out to the MSLN director.

Wait, you Had two kids try out? Perhaps they got the invite/rejections confused because you use the same email address for both kids. I have seen this happen before. |
I thought it might be that. A few years ago they tried out for PSA travel and I got an acceptance letter and they never replied when I asked which kid was accepted. Months later I started getting texts about practices. Looking back at the e-mail, I don't think it was a rejection but something sent to everyone, possible for my older kid. |
Reach out to the coach ask for ID, DS is good enough might make roster. Does not hurt to try. |
Haha, you should have just started showing up with your kid. Maybe you could have gotten a whole year of soccer for free. |
The last tryout is this Friday. Reach out to the coach. He might invite the player out to practice for further evaluation.

The roster for the top team is set. So good luck.
|
Yes, very normal.
The top field is typically the set roster. Most of the movement down from that field is a baseline making player or group, and most of the movement up from lower fields is a positive sign about your kid and how they performed at the eval. That said, there are only so many roster spots, and typically on any given team, only the bottom 25% or so is at risk any given year, so for a 17/18 person roster, you’re really only competing for maybe 3-4 spots, not accounting for positions in the pool mix. Also, many clubs don’t reject, they only accept. So if you were not explicitly offered a spot, your player was rejected. |
yes |
Yes - many clubs put out invites only. If you didn't receive, assume rejected.
The other thing is there are certain years with a huge showing of talent. When we tried out for our club, I was told that they only extended 9 or 10 invites out of something like 124 players. it's more likely when you have 75+ kids trying out for a year, depending on current roster turnover, you may just not have many new players who will receive invite. |
Eventually after a while, some clubs send a blanket note to all those that did not get offers to "close out" the formal tryout process. If it's a club you are truly interested in - you can always check back late summer - things do change. |
We did summer league with PSA, and got invited to a lot of free extra sessions over fall and winter, so this scenario is not out of the question. I think they were even taking rec players at no extra cost. |
You got put on waitlist for travel soccer? |
